Genesis 4:4 Commentary by Jacob Atitebi

28th of April, 2017.

TEXT:Genesis  4:4

And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

Cain and Abel were the first siblings on earth. Cain was a farmer and Abel his brother was a shepherd. At the harvest time they both brought offerings from their professions to God. But in verse 4 which is our focus for today's commentary, the word of God said the Lord accepted Abel and his offering. What was Abel's offering? This is a right question to ask. His offering is the several choice of lambs from the best of his flock. God had to accept Abel even before his offering. Why? Abel offered his offering by faith. God did not accept Abel because of his offering but because of his person. He is a  person of faith. Not just that he brought a more acceptable offering to God but he acted by faith than Cain did.

The point is It is only the acceptable man of God that can bring an acceptable service unto God. If God has not accepted you, He will not accept anything from you. God accepted your person before your service. Your sacrifice or service does not influence God to accept you if He has accepted you before. The lord had respect unto Abel before his offering.
